Building our community

We will be working hard to ensure Strathfield Council works to support everyone in our local area, from our small businesses to our school children, senior citizens and residents with disabilities. Communities are strengthened by diversity and compassion.

Protecting our environment and heritage

We believe all levels of government have a role to play in fighting climate change, including local government. We are committed to making Strathfield cleaner, greener and more sustainable. We will push for council to:

  • adopt a Climate Change Mitigation strategy

  • become carbon neutral

  • transfer our fleet to Electric Vehicles

  • participate in a range of tree planting programs across the local government area.

We are proud of our partnership with Macquarie University’s Smart City collaborative hub on a project that examines the environmental benefits of planting hundreds of trees in industrial sites. The Cosgrove Road and Madeline Street in South Strathfield Area have been selected for this project which will study the long term benefits of planting a variety of trees on pollution and urban heat in this industrial zone.

Fighting overdevelopment

The current NSW Planning system is broken. It is leading to:

  • poor quality high rises being built

  • building defects are at an unacceptable level

  • poor consumer protections and insurance coverage

  • sustainability initiatives are too low and we are completely failing to consider climate change in NSW Planning and development.

The NSW Government appears to be driven by commercial rather than public interest. In this environment it is critical that council strongly advocate on behalf of their community.

We will stand up for the interests of the community and ensure it is at the heart of all of Strathfield Council’s planning decisions. We are on the side of consumers and residents and will push for more green space, areas for community use and strengthening minimum building standards.

Honesty and integrity

Council should be conflict of interest free. As Councillors we are privy to confidential planning information and it is essential that we represent the public good and public interest in planning decisions.

"The Strathfield community elected us in 2017 to represent their best interests on council. We took an oath of office to always act on their behalf with honesty, integrity and transparency. Strathfield Labor has been loyal to that oath for the past four years and will continue to do so."

Jodi McKay MP, Member for Strathfield

"For communities to really thrive - where small businesses succeed, where people get support and neighbours look out for each other - you need councillors who will fight for local residents. We also need councillors who lead with compassion, integrity and honesty.

“Strathfield Labor represents the best of our area - we are diverse, multicultural, experienced and ready to work hard." Jodi McKay MP (July 2021)
